I have started by simply watching youtube beginner yoga videos and keeping a journal of how I feel before and after.
The biggest thing that I have found so far with simply watching a youtube video by myself is that in order to become fully engaged, and relaxed you must eliminate all distractions. This is very hard to do in my house. If I am to do yoga in my bedroom I find the space to be too cluttered, and therefore not a peaceful relaxing place, but rather I find myself cleaning or tidying between poses. Moving to my houses living room didn't help much either. Instead of clutter as my distraction my roommates became my distraction.
I have learned though that personally for me I stay more focused and become more relaxed when I do yoga before or near bed time. It may be because my body is already starting to calm down or that I know I need to try and stretch my body before I sleep, but it seems to be progress. I think yoga would also benefit me to do first thing in the morning too, but I like sleep too much at this point.
From here I have created an event alarm on my phone for a general time that I am usually winding down for bed by that says YOGA! to try to motivate myself to really stay consistent with doing the poses I find important or possibly useful for before bed. I am also working with one of my roommates to attend a real yoga class with me as I am too afraid to go by myself!
